Preps & Props & Shoot!

This is the new blog for Moddame The Label. If you've followed the online boutique before, you can still read up on the past blogs at: http://www.moddame.blogspot.com

After weeks of planning and putting together themes for the look book / promotional campaign, the day finally came when it was all put to use. The Moddame Fall 2014 Collection was shot at my loft in South Gate, California. When the BF and I first moved in, I thought it would be a great place for a photo shoot, and it was.

To bring Moddame to life, we created a mix of modern, comfort, and casual setting upstairs. We found these amazing leather chaises on craigslist that added elegance and chic. Downstairs, we wanted to give Moddame more of an edgy look by using alcohol bottles, vintage props, and tying it all together with a clean white light.

We were lucky to have been able work with the talented MUA, Blair Levinthal www.makeupbyblair.com. She did an amazing job on the makeup for each set. The beautiful model was Isabelle Ann, who had an adorable English accent! She had amazing hair, great model poses, and was very easy to work with. Calvin Lim, our photographer from www.calvinlimphotography.com dialed in perfect lighting in every set. I'm confident in his work and can't wait to see the final look book / promotional campaign. It's unimaginable how much work goes into one photo shoot.

A quick snap of the color story for the Moddame Fall 2014 Collection

"Moddame the label, aims to satisfy the edgy, trendsetter, modern day woman. From comfortable and casual, to trending and bold, Moddame knows that every modern day woman, is all the above."

With Isabelle and Blair! Good work girls!

Had to take a selfie to look back at! The lazy eye just had to ruin it.

The photo shoot was a great success and brings the collection that much closer to completion, yet there is so much more left to do. This week is all about finalizing patterns and markings for production. There is one month left to complete production and lots of fabric to be cut. Come back next week to see the final look book, place your pre-orders, spread the word, and love the collection.

The Weekend Blog: "Props & Fun in the Sun"

This is the new blog for Moddame The Label. If you've followed the online boutique before, you can still read up on the past blogs at: http://www.moddame.blogspot.com

California Love - Aliso Beach - Tide Pools - Sunset - Love my hoods

A girl's got to eat: When you're hungry and up in the AM in DTLA, grab a taco from one of the hot dog stands. They're pretty good, pretty dirty, and won't kill you! For dinner, we've been enjoying a Korean spot in Koreatown called Jae Bo Du. Don't worry, their menu comes in English and Korean. Many joints don't! They have three menu options available for two parties or more. For $100 you can feed up to four people. It comes with a set tray of seafood that you cook yourself. Don't forget to order some Korean soju and take two shots before the eating begins. Everything will taste a lot better after.

Getting Work Done:
Getting any kind of work done means eating good, enjoying life, and taking care of business in a timely manner. Saturday morning, I set off to find the final fabrics for the collection. This collection wouldn't be possible without Los Angeles's fabric district. I can only advise that if anyone wanted to get involved with fashion, come to LA. Be inspired. Moddame's inspirations come from my surroundings, southern California, the people, the food, and the life I'm choosing to live.

Stopping by the studio: Something about the tall buildings, being surrounded by other inspirational people, and having one thought in our heart: succeeding.

The last finds for the Fall Collection
Black and white, can't go wrong with it.

Prop Finds: The look book shoot is in two weeks and we're running out of time. We needed the best places for affordable and unique finds. Thrift stores and swamp meats were where we headed. Luckily, our first stop at the Golden West College swamp meat was enough shopping for the day. Excited to see what we'll do with these finds.

Old, used and abused. Aren't we lovely?

Now that most of the collection is completed, everyday is another day to prepare patterns for marking, grading, and cutting. The budget is very tight so I'm learning how to grade patterns again. Since I've been in LA, I've moved homes 4-5 times and had to leave a lot of the past behind, including text books I wished I hadn't. Thank God for youtube and google! Tonight, the concept and layout of the loft we're using for the photo shoot is being completed. The model, MUA, and photographer are almost finalized for the shoot. I keep reminding myself: Go get it Hustla!

The Sneak Peek

This is the new blog for Moddame The Label. If you've followed the online boutique before, you can still read up on the past blogs at: http://www.moddame.blogspot.com

Out and about in LA

Enjoying the weekend means enjoying the food:
Banh Beo warm rice wraps @ Quan Hop Vietnamese Restaurant,  Garden Grove CA
This place is delish with very flavorful pho and other noodle soup dishes.
Chinese broccoli & crispy pork @ Sizzling Thai Restaurant, Downey CA
A favorite since childhood, didn't realize it was a Thai dish!
Juicy pork dumpling @ Din Tai Fung Chinese restaurant, Arcadia CA
Not much of a dumpling person but this place is an exception. They have the best juicy pork dumplings, spicy beef noodles, and delicious stir fried baby bok choy. A favorite in SoCal.
Garlic butter shrimp and fries @ Fisherman's Outlet, Los Angeles CA
We've lived and work in LA for how long? And just found out about this place! Get your seafood grilled or deep fried. Their service is fast and fresh. Great for lunch on a work week.

Getting Work Done: The Sneak Peek
With our layering pieces ready to flaunt, there was no better place to shoot, than a warehouse in DTLA. Working with a torn down warehouse, meant moving boxes, opening the areas of old worn out windows, and exposing cemented floors. We even found these very used chairs that were perfect for the scene. A big thank you to the model Kat and photographer Roy for shooting the sneak peek. And the BF Scott who's always so helpful and supportive. The sneak peek shoot will be out next week on the new website! Make sure to come back and check it out.

What's new this week: The new website is up and in the process of an update!
A big thank you to all the supporters of Moddame the boutique. We're very excited to get the label going and branding Moddame with the style and quality we have been waiting to offer. Keep note that this collection is a limited edition. We will only be cutting so many of each style. Make sure to be ready to pre-order in September. Everything ships on September 21st, the first day of Fall!
